Create Great Magazine: 2023
I was part of Big Thought's Youth Apprentice Team, consisting of Angelica Barrera, Ania Hodges, Brooke Green, Jaxon McCowan, Nalenie Pinales, Ty Walton, and myself. Our team worked with D Magazine to pioneer the Create Great Magazine. The Create Great Magazine focuses on highlighting youth stories, perspectives from different creatives, and the Creator archetype, a holistic framework for creators/ creatives to use their gifts to grow and impact their communities.
The project had three phases: Professional Development, Training and Customer Research, and Writing.
We began the project learning about our hard and soft skills, workshopping our resumes and writing CVs with BrassTacks Program Director, Cece Rockwell. We then learned the fundamentals of creative writing and market research from D Custom Magazine CEO Paul Buckley and D Custom Magazine Account Supervisor Rosalind Lynam.
As a team we created the table of contents for the magazine and presented our outline to Big Thought and D Custom Magazine.
After getting the enthusiastic greeen light from both parties, we continued working with Rosalind and worked with D Custom Senior Editor to write and create works for the magazine such as my "Happy Ending for John Henry" piece, and have presented our works in its various stages at events such as 2023's BIG NIGHT.
