Kurobo: The Story of Yasuke: 2020-
This piece is inspired by the story of the legenary African samurai, Yasuke. I first heard about this figure from Thomas Lockley’s historic novel through an interview with Black Experience Japan and have since been inspired to make a manga, adding my own elements to his tale. This set of sketches and digital illustrations have been a way for me to express some of my thoughts and ideas about the character and slowly work my way into creating my own manga about Yasuke
